Gloucester Diary 2006 The 2006 Dormansland Cricket Club tour to Gloucester was, thanks on the whole to George, a brilliant success. Below, in diary format, is a summary of events (and non-events). Sunday 2nd July
Monday 3rd July 1200 and 1230hrs - 10 men and 1 boy arrive in dribs and drabs at the Royal George Hotel, Birdlip. (Temp. 86°c) 1230 - depart for the first fixture at Frocester CC. 1245 - Muz, George, Graham, VW, Jonty, and Hendo arrive. 1255 - Nick and Stuart Arrive. 1355 - Athers, Miles and Sharpey bowl up. Athers wins toss, and elects to field. 1400 - Match Starts. (Temp. 109°c) 1500 - Dale Arrives 1530 - DaveArrives 1630 - End of Innings 200 off 40 overs. Tea is amazing, suddenly fielding first seems a good call. 1700 - VW and Nick walk out to bat 1730 - VW off the mark 1731 - VW hits first six of his career 1732 - VW out for 38 following abuse from crowd 116 for 1 - Watson wanders out 1745 - Sharpey duck. 1800 - Watson, (40 something runs) runs out of partners in the last over with 8 required and runs himself out. All out 193. Drinking commences 1805 - Sharpey downs a pint of Fosters 1806 - Sharpey is out of the game - 2000 - Dinner at the Hotel accompanied by "Cabaret George"
"This reminds me of the time I pulled it out in Vegas. They asked me to play on stage with Jimmy Page in front of 500 people" (Jimmy Page is the nickname of George's "Harmonica") 2100 - Sharpey heads off to bed - Jonty, Dale, Miles, Hendo, Athers, Muz, Oxi Action and George head off to Cheltenham. Upon arrival, George and Muz go AWOL, and others head for drinks in "O'Monaghan's" - 2200 - George and Muz reappear from the ether, and persuades the others to head off to some shabby night club affair. Entry free - Drinks £50.
- 2230 - The party attempt to leave, but realise they have lost Watto and Hendo. They find the CCTV screen and gaze in astonishment at what they saw. Hendo (Watto's "wing man"), doing some sort of tribal war dance in one corner, and Watto in the other displaying his mating ritual, which involves licking his index fingers and rubbing his nipples.
George, recalling that he once lip read for Custer, and signed on Hollyoaks, explained what Watson was trying to communicate. "I'm (he points at himself) a little (he makes a gesture indicating small) camp (he limps his wrist), and HE's (he points at Hendo)got a big one! (gesturing large)"
Of course, Watto denies this, and claims he was saying the Hendo was really camp, but really he was just saying what everyone else was thinking. - Gutted that he had not pulled (or "scored") on the walk back to the Taxi Rank, Watto makes a last ditch attempt, by telling two more girls that he went to the same school as The Cure's Robert Smith. Needless to say the conversation didn't get him very far, and wasn't helped by Hendo interrupting with "the 1950 Nobel Prize Winner for Physics, Cecil Frank Powell, went to my school".
